March 29, 2025 - At Sea

Today was the first full sea day of four on this cruise. We are south-east of Bermuda heading south to the island of St. Maarten. We should arrive there early on Monday morning.

The sea has been very rough. The continual high waves and heavy winds are rocking the boat, laying low anyone who is susceptible to motion sickness. This includes Marg, despite the fact she came well prepared with various recommend solutions. The winds from the east make it impossible to walk on outside tracks. I tried to take a stroll on the upper deck and was just about blown over. I had to crouch down to make myself a smaller target, so I could walk forward. The captain said the wind was 25-25 mph and the ship's speed was 15 mph. So, I think that gusts reached hurricane speeds. I’ve not encountered winds that strong, ever!

Trivia is still very popular on board. During the day, I played in three rounds of trivia. We won the 70s knowledge contest and were in the middle of the pack for the other two games. In the general knowledge contest, one of the questions was “which state is it illegal to have your donkey sleep in the bathtub?” The answer is Arizona.

I took a tour of ship. I’m starting to get familiar with the layout and locations of various restaurants, bars and clubs. I’m starting to appreciate how well designed and efficient this ship is. Two of the most unique design features are the outdoor hot tubs and the Magic Carpet lounge. The outdoor hot tub is in a bowl that is shaped like a martini glass and towers over the swimming pool.

The Magic Carpet lounge is a large barge that hangs over the water from deck12 of the ship. The sides of this lounge/restaurant are glass and extend from the floor to about a meter and a half in height.

Tonight is the first formal dinner. It seemed strange not to have Marg by my side as we both enjoy these semi-formal occasions.
